Contrasting results was presented on the international airports in Korea. For ex-ample, Airports Council International (ACI) praised Incheon International Airport as the best airport in the world for 5 consecutive years. On the other hands some international airports such as Yangyang, Muan and Cheongju, received negative evaluation due to operational deficit etc. International airports of Korea except the Incheon International Airport are operated on the basis of domestic flight demand so that the evaluation on those airports will be more differentiated in compliance with decrease in domestic aeronautical demand, resulting from rising alternative transportation like KTX. Therefore, we carried out the evaluation of international airport program, so as to find out solutions to the problem facing international air-port in Korea. Evaluation results are as follows.
Most of all, the international airport by region, especially for short distance in-ternational flights, need to remain in terms of the balanced regional development and the aviation liberalization. Cheongju airport is now utilized by both civilian and military force, likewise, Yangyang and Muan airport should follow the same track to manage airport amenities in an efficient manner.
Secondly, considering the investment efficiency and the competition between neighboring countries, it is required to decide size and schedule for three-level Incheon International Airport expansion project.
Thirdly, by charging fee for using facility in airport, it can control demand on international flight in Gimpo International Airport. It also needs to consider the financial compensation for surrounding areas, with regard to the airport noise.
Fourthly, participating in shares from private sector can be difficult to enhance management efficiency of Incheon International Airports and to improve its status as the International Airport Hub.
Finally, having a lesson from the experience from other countries, the introduc-tion of duty free shop in the arrival hall needs to be positively reviewed.
